Minimizing Risk of Failure from Ceramic-on-Ceramic Total Hip Prosthesis by Selecting Ceramic Materials Based on Tresca Stress

چکیده
The choice of ceramic-on-ceramic coupling in total hip prosthesis has advantages over couplings with other combinations materials that use polyethylene and metal terms high hardness, scratch resistance, low wear rate, increased lubrication performance. To reduce the risk primary postoperative failure, selection ceramic for is a strategic step needs to be taken. current study aims analyze commonly used materials, namely zirconium dioxide (ZrO2), silicon nitride (Si3N4), aluminium oxide (Al2O3), according Tressa failure criterion investigation stress distribution. A two-dimensional axisymmetric finite element-based computational model been evaluate Tresca on under gait cycle. results show ZrO2-on-ZrO2 can by about 17.34% 27.23% Si3N4-on-Si3N4 Al2O3-on-Al2O3 couplings, respectively.

In Vitro and in Vivo Analysis of Squeaking Frequencies in Ceramic-on-ceramic Total Hip Prosthesis
INTRODUCTION: Squeaking after total hip replacement has been reported in up to 10% of patients (1). Some authors proposed that sound emissions from squeaking hips result from resonance of one or other or both of the metal parts and not the bearing surfaces (2). There is no reported in vitro study about the squeaking frequencies under lubricated regime. The goal of the study was to reproduce the...
متن کاملInflammatory pseudotumor after ceramic-on-ceramic total hip arthroplasty
We present a unique case of a symptomatic adverse local tissue reaction in a patient with a ceramic-on-ceramic total hip bearing surface. To our knowledge, this pathological finding has not yet been described in a ceramic-on-ceramic articulation without a cobalt-chromium alloy trunnion or modular neck component as a source of metal wear. We conclude that despite its mechanical mostly benign wea...
متن کاملCeramic-on-ceramic bearings total hip arthroplasty in young patients
BACKGROUND The results of ceramic-on-ceramic (CoC) total hip arthroplasty (THA) in younger patients were not univocal. This study aims to evaluate the results of CoC bearing THA in patients younger than 50 years. METHODS A total of 90 younger patients performed CoC THAs during March 2003 and May 2008 were included in this study. Hip function and activity were evaluated with Harris hip score a...
متن کاملCeramic Head Fracture in Ceramic-on-Polyethylene Total Hip Arthroplasty
Revision rates of total hip arthroplasty have decreased after introducing total hip arthroplasty (THA) using ceramic component, since ceramic components could reduce components wear and osteolysis. The fracture of a ceramic component is a rare but potentially serious event. Thus, ceramic on polyethylene articulation is gradually spotlighted to reduce ceramic component fracture. There are a few ...
متن کاملErratum for Ceramic-on-Ceramic Versus Ceramic-on-Polyethylene Bearing Surfaces in Total Hip Arthroplasty.
The choice between ceramic-on-ceramic (COC) and ceramic-on-polyethylene (COP) in primary total hip arthroplasty (THA) remains controversial. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the reliability and durability of COC vs COP bearing surfaces in THA. Based on published randomized, controlled trials (RCTs) identified in PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, th...
